Welcome to Follow the Farang

This website concept began as a vanity project but swiftly changed into a community project with the events that have happened in ESEA and around the world in the last couple of years, COVID has brought major poverty to many countries and the treatment of East and South East Asians around the world has been shocking, this is my attempt to raise some funds for those in desperate need and try to bring communities back together again.

As you will see i’m not a professional web designer, I am a food obsessive and a wanderer, so all I really have to offer is maps of places i’ve found that truly are where only locals would know, i’m not an expert in any particular cuisine or cultures but I learn a little more every time I travel and luckily for me i’m surrounded by amazing people that educate and introduce me to new things in London, you can find them on this site and enjoy those experiences too.

I’m also lucky enough to have some awesome chef and restaurateur friends, who have very kindly offered to give discounts at their restaurants (some of the best in London) and cook charity dinners to help raise money and there will be random prize draws with meals for 2 and a bunch of other stuff to thank everyone in the community for their kindness, together we can make a difference to many lives.

The charity we are immediately focusing on is a Myanmar project (see nikki’s page in charities section) that is feeding people daily, its volunteer run and all money will go directly to them with no cuts taken by organisations etc. Myanmar has been subjected to a brutal attack by an almost genocidal military with many people being widowed, orphaned and displaced if they were lucky enough to survive, it is a heartbreaking and desperate situation which is being almost completely ignored by the world media and I would love for us to be able to do anything we can to help.

i’m launching the site early in a slightly unfinished state (pics missing etc) due to the urgency of the situation, the maps all have markers (over 110 places for uk, and at least 200 across Asia) but as I will be updating constantly it will be a permanent work in progress regardless, everything else will be implemented ASAP

it would be brilliant if everyone could be members but circumstances aren’t always that simple so there is also a subscriber section for those that want to still be part of it all and I will be doing free guides for European cities once the workload thins out a little, hopefully there is something for everyone and i’m always open to ideas, you can find me at @followthefarang on insta or contactthefarang@gmail.com
